Refik Anadol (b 1985) is an internationally recognized media artist of Turkish origin living and working in America. Through his creations, Anadol explores the cooperation between man and machine and what it means to be human in the age of artificial intelligence. Anadoli’s artwork Machine Hallucinations: Nature Dreams – Last Memory is built on the feeling that the viewers will see a beautiful natural place that is dear to them as if for the last time. How to perceive the work in such a case? It is a data sculpture that explores how the machine seems to hallucinate and imagine such beautiful natural places that do not actually exist. The machine has learned over 46 million nature photos. Anadol uses an algorithm developed by artificial intelligence. He also speculates on the idea that what is seen on the screen may be the only thing in the future left of places and nature.

Anadol uurib oma loomingu kaudu inimese ning masina koostööd ning seda, mida tähendab inimeseks olemine tehisintellekti ajastul. Anadoli teos “Machine Hallucinations: Nature Dreams – Last Memory” on üles ehitatud tundele, kus vaataja näeb talle armsat looduskaunist kohta justkui viimast korda. Kuidas sellisel juhul teost tajuda? Tegemist on andmeskulptuuriga, mis uurib seda, kuidas masinal on justkui hallutsinatsioonid ja ta kujutab selliseid looduskauneid kohti, mida ei ole tegelikult olemas. Masin on õppinud ära üle 46 miljoni loodusfoto. Anadol kasutab tehisintellekti poolt arendatud algoritmi ning spekuleerib ka mõttega, et tulevikus võibki ekraanil nähtu olla ainus, mis kohtadest ja loodusest alles on.
