Breakfast at Tiffany’s

2006

ENG EST

Thomas Dellert (b 1953) is a Swedish artist, who has a direct visual language and he uses irony and humor to depict 20th century history in his art. Audrey Hepburn (1929-1993) was a British actress and style icon, who starred in the legendary movie “Breakfast at Tiffany's” in 1961. Dellert has created a witty version, where breakfast is fast food, but instead of hamburger and fries there are pearls and diamonds. Tiffany & Co. is a company that was established in 1837 and it has become the leading luxury jewellery brand in the world. In the bottom right corner of the artwork there's a reference to Banksy's artwork “Napalm” from 2004, where one can see Mickey Mouse, Vietnam war refugee and McDonalds mascot. Banksy has always been very political and critical and this artwork shows a harsh reality of colonialism and capitalism linked to military-industrial warfare.
