Description
Flowers and Airplanes museum lesson focuses on works of art that reflect historical events. The 1960s changed the world and is also the decade when Pop art emerged in the United States. We will use scenes to bring five events to life: the building of the Berlin Wall, Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech, the Vietnam War, the first man on the moon, and the Woodstock Festival. We will discuss the perspectives of the role-play characters and draw parallels between the past and the present.
Objectives
The student:
- will analyze the challenges of the individual in the context of the era.
- will become familiar with works of art that reflect historical events;
- will act out scenes from the 1960s;
- will discuss the connections between historical events and the present day;
- will develop their empathy;
Before and after
It is great if students familiarize themselves with the historical events covered in the museum lesson. Information sheets and recommended videos will be sent to the teacher who booked the lesson.
After the museum lesson, the class can discuss or write an essay in which historical events are found to have modern equivalents. You can also focus on the individual’s point of view and reflect on the change and persistence of values over time. The topics of the lesson can be expanded and unraveled based on the keywords: wall, dream, war, first and festival.
