Description
The museum lesson Game with Art History invites you to explore PoCo’s artworks that interpret the major works of art history. Contemporary Pop art is like playing with the past. As a result, we will place the artworks on a timeline and create word and role-playing games based on the artworks. We will develop our visual literacy and create our own creative works based on the artworks.
Objectives
The student:
- creates interpretations of artworks.
- gets acquainted with artworks based on art history;
- places the artworks on a timeline;
- creates word games based on the artworks;
- brings the artwork to life with a scene:
Before and after
It would be helpful if students are familiar with Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Bernt Notke’s Dance of Death, and Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans. As a pre-test, students can look for modern interpretations of the infamous Mona Lisa. This could turn into a class competition to see who can find the funniest picture, the smallest piece, etc.
After the museum lesson, you can play with other famous works of art and think about what would happen if they actually met. What would Marilyn Monroe and Mona Lisa say to each other? What would Andy Warhol and Vincent van Gogh talk about? What would it look like if one artwork was a meeting of Cubism, Pop art, and Surrealism?
