Description
My First Pop Art Museum program is well suited for one of the first museum visits. First, we talk about the reasons why we visit museums and discuss how and why we should behave in a museum. Then, we focus on four works by the world-famous Pop artist Andy Warhol. We examine and describe the flowers, Marilyn Monroe, soup cans, and Mickey Mouse seen in the works. We compare the works and practice noticing details and reading symbols. Hands-on activities based on the works support the development of friendship with Pop art.
Objectives
The student:
demonstrates how and why one should behave politely in a museum;
describes what he/she sees in the works and expresses the thoughts and feelings he has;
is able to focus and find details, symbols and geometric shapes in artworks;
finds differences and similarities and compares the artworks;
acquires basic knowledge of Pop art.
Before and after
You can talk to children about what museums are and why people visit them. You can also ask them to recall if and what their museum experiences are. Before visiting, we kindly ask to explain good museum etiquette.
After visiting the museum, each child could draw their first piece of Pop art. To do this, the teacher could take pictures of the artworks selected by the children in the museum, so that they can later draw or paint based on them.
