Description
In the museum lesson See With Your Own Eyes: Pop Art Portraits, we will take the most famous Pop art portraits apart. We will also study idioms about body parts and try to visualize them. The portrait genre is the basis for looking at our own selves. Accordingly, we will paint a portrait of ourselves with words and also practice the creative use of Pop art features. We will do breathing and presence exercises to support our mind and body.
Objectives
The student:
- creates their own Pop art portrait.
- gets acquainted with well-known Pop art portraits;
- practices idioms;
- tries to ground their body and do breathing exercises;
- articulates their own characteristics and interests;
Before and after
Students can be introduced to portraits from different eras, art movements and styles (for example Baroque, Realism, Cubism, Surrealism). It is also good to break down some idioms with students. You can start with the name of the museum lesson: See With Your Own Eyes (In Estonian: Oma silm on kuningas).
After the museum lesson, it is worth repeating the idioms, depicting them literally and enriching your language. In addition, you can complete your own Pop art (self)portrait as a larger project.
