Double Mickey Mouse
Andy Warhol (1928-1987) is the most well known American pop artist. Similar thing about being well known can be said about Mickey Mouse, he is probably one of the most well known cartoon characters in the Western world. Walt Disney was the artist that Warhol admired a lot, so it is only natural that he turned to one of his favourite artists during the last decade of his career. By the time Warhol created his “Double Mickey Mouse” in 1981 Disney was close to turning 60 years and it had had time as a brand to find its way to people’s hearts. According to a novelist and critic John Updike, even though Uncle Sam is symbolically the image for America, Mickey Mouse can represent America even better. Nowadays when people travel, they recognize both Mickey Mouse and Andy Warhol artwork. The case is not just recognizing them, but both have earned the status of an icon in this and previous century.
Andy Warhol (1928-1987) on Ameerika tuntuim popkunstnik.
