Rotella Mimmo
Domenico “Mimmo” Rotella (1918-2006) was an Italian artist and poet. He studied art at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Naples after which he moved to Rome in 1945. In Rome he became associated with the artist group named Les Affichistes who were the forefathers of street art. His first solo exhibition took place in 1951. In the 1950s a scholarship at the University of Kansas City took him to the United States, where he met among other artists Robert Rauschenberg, Yven Klein and Jackson Pollock. His signature style was using torn advertising posters and it can be seen as a liberating and expressive act of creating and documenting at the same time. In 1964 the artist represented Italy at the Venice Biennale.
1964. aastal esindas kunstnik Itaaliat Veneetsia biennaalil.
