Marilyn
Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol (1928-1987) has Slovakian roots and he is a legend of pop art. He is the one who has turned both Marilyn Monroe and Mickey Mouse immortal in art history. In 1967 Andy Warhol established a print-publishing business called Factory Additions. Marilyn was their first print series for which he used the publicity still of an actress and silkscreen printing technique. Silkscreen is a printmaking technique, which got started in China and its history dates back over 1000 years. Yet, Warhol is the one who made silkscreen hugely popular from the mid 20th century onwards. For Marilyn series 5 screens were used, one that carried a photo image and 4, which had a different colour each.
