ENG EST

Urmas Viik (b 1961) is an Estonian graphic artist. “Hoiupank” is part of the PoCo museum money related artwork series and leads down the memory lane. On one hand, one can remember a former bank named Hoiupank, on the other hand Estonian crowns and thirdly influential people from Estonian culture. Money is something daily, nowadays probably used more on bank cards than notes. Symbolically people are not in contact with the heroes on notes, so they have had to move to artworks. Therefore the viewer finds folklorist and linguist Jakob Hurt, significant public figure of The Estonian Age of Awakening Carl Robert Jakobson, poet Lydia Koidula and writer Anton Hansen Tammsaare. In numbers, banks Hoiupank and Hansapank joined in 1998 and Estonia started using euros in 2011.
