Mall Nukke (b 1964) is an Estonian artist, who graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts graphics department in 1992. In the second hall of the PoCo museum one was able to see her artwork “Norma”, which highlights how the media turned Norma Jean Baker into Marilyn Monroe. The artist used collage technique and newspaper pieces to stress that. Mall Nukke has her own thing with the icons. Historically and in the context of religion they are sacred. In her series dealing with the icons the artist used a familiar form, yet she created a new content and when one looks closely, it is shifted. The current artwork depicts an unusual saint with a dollar sign and a text “osta-müü”, which means buy-sell. Probably it is fair to ask about the significance of the terms icon and iconic. Especially in the context, where Pop art artworks have become iconic.
