Mall Nukke (b 1964) is an Estonian artist, who graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts graphics department in 1992. Nukke is also a curator and teacher. Some of her favourite themes include time and space, content and form. Vaikelu nr. 3 combines hand- and footprints and significant images of different times. The work carries layers of meanings: the beginning of art – cave paintings, the common genre of art – still life, the icon of Pop art – Campbell’s tomato soup, the 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center Twin Towers and the destruction of Minoru Yamasaki’s architecture as the end of postmodern art. In the context of the hall of beginnings, it can therefore be stated how every end is the beginning of something new.
