Mimmo Rotella

2004

ENG EST

Mimmo Rotella (1918-2006) was an Italian artist who did not paint for a certain period. If street art brings art to the urban space, then Rotella brought what he saw on the streets to the galleries. Namely, he began to tear down posters in the urban space at night and stick them on top of each other in layers. Décollage is a French word that means to unstick and is used in connection with artists who made art from advertising posters torn from the walls. Rotella gave the collage technique a dimension that had not been seen before. His work also reflected the appearance of post-war European cities.
