My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love (Fraternal kiss)

Dmitri Vrubel

1990/2009

ENG EST

Dmitri Vrubel (1960-2022) was a Russian artist best known for his Fraternal Kiss mural on the Berlin Wall. The work depicts communist leaders Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honecker celebrating the 30th anniversary of the German Democratic Republic. The mural is based on Regis Bossu's 1979 photo. In 1990, the East Side Gallery was founded in Berlin to preserve history, the 1.3 km strip of wall has works by around 100 artists. Vrubel created his piece in 1990, but since it had been damaged over the years and was also painted over, he completely repainted it in 2009.
