Flying Balloon Girl

2005

Banksy

Banksy created the work in 2005 on the wall separating Palestine and Israel in Bethlehem. The artist believes that Palestine is the world’s largest open-air prison, so the girl flying away with balloons becomes a symbol of freedom and a better tomorrow. The carefree play of childhood and the element of magical realism are in strong contrast with the harsh controlled reality of the region and the ongoing war in modern times.
