Jüri Kask

1973-1977

ENG EST

Jüri Kask (b 1949) is an Estonian painter, sculptor and graphic artist who graduated from Estonian National Art Academy painting department. The artist originates from the modernist tradition and Geometric Abstractionism is characteristic to his art throughout his career. In 2018, Kask received the Konrad Mäe prize. The jury praised his modern, witty and aesthetic work. The motif of this artwork, a cannon from which people are ejected, has been compared to the work Kahurid by Eduard Wiiralt. When opening his personal exhibition Laammaal in 2023, the artist considered himself a young artist at the age of 70, because the history of painting is so long that the process takes time.
