Mall Nukke

Mall Nukke (b 1964) is an Estonian artist. Religion has repeatedly figured in her work, in the exhibitions Icons in 2004 and New Icons in 2023. The artworks are based on the structure of icons, the form leads to the past, but the themes are strongly in the present.
She creates iconographic cartoons, as if the journalism of a bygone period. Nukke's collage technique melts the layers in a subtle way and requires paying attention to notice the shift. For example, in this artwork The Angel's Advice to Mary, the angel hands Mary a condom.
Mall Nukke (s 1964) on Eesti kunstnik. Religioon on tema loomingus korduvalt figureerinud, näitusetel ”Ikoonid” 2004. aastal ning “Uues ikoonid” 2023. aastal. Nukke võtab aluseks ikoonide ülesehituse, seega teose vorm viib minevikku, kuid teemad on tugevalt olevikus.
Nukke on loonud ikonograafilisi koomikseid, justkui möödunud perioodi ajakirjandust. Nukke kollažitehnikaga kihtide sulatamine on peen ning nõuab nihestatuse märkamiseks süvenemist. Näiteks käesolevas teoses “Ingli nõuanded Maarjale” ulatab ingel Maarjale kondoomi.
