Läbi tule. Ja jää.

ENG EST

Keiti Vilms (b 1983) is an Estonian magician of words, a pun artist, and a poet. In autumn 2023 she collaborated with PoCo and her art of words was shown as an installation in Rotermann Square - featuring this marble bench and an old-school red/white LED screen. The text on the bench artwork reads "Läbi tule. Ja jää." which, with punctuation means "come by and stay," but without the punctuation reads "through fire and ice". The sculptural bench artwork is also a reference to an American artist Jenny Holzer (b 1950), who created marble benches with truisms just like this one. One needs to understand the Estonian language to appreciate her wordplay, but it can be said that changing a letter or adding one changes the whole meaning and context. Vilms is known as the säutsupääsuke, which refers to her tweets on Twitter and is derived from the national bird of Estonia – suitsupääsuke(chimney swallow).
Skulptuur viitab Ameerika kunstniku Jenny Holzeri (s 1950) kontseptuaalsele kunstile, mille keskmes on samuti sõnad.
