Kristian Krokfors

In 2024, the PoCo museum presented the exhibition Shelter by the Finnish artist Kristian Krokfors (b 1952). At its center was one of the artist’s recurring motifs, the ambivalent tent. The exhibition spoke of both freedom and homelessness, protection and uncertainty. This artwork depicts another recurring motif in the artist’s work, an inflated beach ball floating in a pool. On the one hand, every artist who depicts water is challenged to do so in a unique way. Namely, David Hockney (b 1937) is one artist whose work is synonymous with water. Coca Cola is a familiar brand from both consumer culture and Pop art. Thus, Krokfors’ artwork has a recognizable world that famous artists have already made their own. Krokfors, in turn, enters into dialogue with them and adds his own interpretation.
2024. aastal esitles PoCo muuseum Soome kunstniku Kristian Krokforsi (s 1952) näitust “Shelter”. Selle keskmes oli üks kunstniku läbiv motiiv, ambivalentne telk. Näitus rääkis nii vabadusest kui ka kodutusest, kaitsest kui ka ebakindlusest. Käesolev teos kujutab teise läbiva motiivina kunstniku loomingus täispuhutud rannapalli, mis basseinis hulbib. Ühelt poolt on igale vett kujutavale kunstnikule väljakutse seda teha omapärasel viisil. Nimelt on David Hockney (s 1937) üks kunstnik, kelle loomingu üheks sünonüümiks on vesi. Coca Cola on tuttav kaubamärk nii tarbimiskultuurist kui ka popkunstist. Seega Krokforsi teosel on äratuntav maailm, mille kuulsad kunstnikud on juba enda omaks teinud. Krokfors omakorda astub nendega dialoogi ja lisab oma tõlgenduse.
