Pistol
Roy Lichtenstein (1923 – 1997) was an American pop artist, who is mostly known for his comic style and Ben-day dots. In fact, he did use original comics as a reference when he started enlarging and painting single images from comic strips. “Pistol” is an artist’s comment on the gun laws in America. Unfortunately issuing gun permits is still a big problem in the States and the 1960s shook society with the assassinations of the 35th American president John F. Kennedy in 1963 and baptist minister and activist Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968. Slightly different version of the current artwork was commissioned for the TIME magazine cover in June 1968, where the topic was: The Gun in America.
“Pistol” on kunstniku kommentaar Ameerika relvaseadustele. Kahjuks on relvalubade väljastamine Ameerikas endiselt suur probleem ja 1960. aastad šokeerisid ühiskonda 35. Ameerika presidendi John F. Kennedy atentaadiga 1963. aastal ja baptisti vaimuliku ja aktivisti Martin Luther King Jr. atentaadiga 1968. aastal. Käesoleva kunstiteose veidi teistsugune versioon telliti kunstnikult TIME ajakirja 1968. aasta juuni esikaanele ning ajakirja teema oli: The Gun in America.
