Banksy’s work Gimp Masked Woman was exhibited at his Los Angeles exhibition Barely legal in 2006. The exhibition was organized secretly and the venue was only revealed on the day of the event. The exclusive exhibition was open for only 3 days. A live elephant was also part of the installation, painted in such a way that it blended into the pattern of the wallpaper. The elephant in the room that no one is talking about drew attention to worsening problems such as access to clean drinking water or the number of people living below the poverty line. In this piece, Banksy has vandalized a painting from the Rococo period, but the woman wears a specific gimp mask, typical of a bondage suit. The world is full of things that are not talked about in public.
