Mall Nukke

Mall Nukke (b 1964) is an Estonian artist, who graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts graphics department in 1992. Mall Nukke has her own thing with the icons. Historically and in the context of religion they are sacred. In her series dealing with the icons the artist used a familiar form, yet she created a new content and when one looks closely, it is shifted. The current artwork depicts an unusual saint with a dollar sign and a text “osta-müü”, which means buy-sell. Probably it is fair to ask about the significance of the terms icon and iconic. Especially in the context, where Pop art artworks have become iconic. Also, in the context of consumer culture, the "god of money" is the only saint that is worshiped.
Mall Nukke (s 1964) on Eesti kunstnik, kes on lõpetanud Eesti Kunstiakadeemia graafika osakonna 1992. aastal. Mall Nukkel on ikoonidega oma asi ajada. Ajalooliselt ja religiooni kontekstis on need pühad. Kunstnik kasutas aga oma ikoonidega tegelevas seerias tuttavat vormi ning lõi sinna uue ning lähemal vaatlusel nihestatud sisu. PoCo muuseumis olev kunstiteos kujutab ebatavalist pühakut dollari märgi ning osta-müü kirjaga. Ilmselt on õiglane küsida mõistete ikoon ja ikoonilisus märgilisuse kohta, eriti kontektis, kus popkunsti teosed on saanud ikoonilisteks. Ühtlasi on tarbimiskultuuri kontekstis “rahajumal” ainus pühak, keda kummardatakse.
