ENG EST

Tom Wesselmann (1931-2004) was one of the leading Pop artists in 1960s America. In his words, one of his missions in art was to make figurative art as exciting as abstract art. The artist dealt with classical themes in art such as nude, landscape and still life adding everyday objects and advertising ephemera. Lulu is a poster for Alan Berg's opera of the same name. Wesselmann was influenced by Henri Matisse's use of color, and the heroine's gaze as a femme fatale is aptly alluring and disastrous.
