ENG EST

Marko Mäetamm celebrated his 60th birthday in 2025. In 1997, the 31-year-old Marko Mäetamm was awarded the United Nations Development Programme Art Prize. The jury appreciated the artist's critical approach to the surrounding world. The theme of the Estonian Human Development Report 1997 was social cohesion and social differentiation. Escalator refers to the differences in society, with some people's lives moving towards the better and others in the opposite direction. The work was used on the cover of the Estonian Human Development Report.
