Ugo Nespolo
Ugo Nespolo (b 1941) is a versatile Italian artist. His mediums include painting, printmaking, film and sculpture. Nespolo began his artistic career in the 1960s, and at the end of the same decade he was represented by the Arturo Schwartz gallery in Milan, which also represented Marcel Duchamp, Kurt Schwitters and others. Nespolo’s work has been influenced by Pop art, which gained popularity in Italy in the 1960s. Also conceptual art, Arte Povera and Fluxus. In the same period, he also started making experimental films and visited the United States for the first time. Friends and artists such as Lucio Fontana, Enrico Baj, Michelangelo Pistoletto and others have appeared in his films. Nespolo has been the producer and director of nearly 20 films. His work can be summed up as eclectic and ironic. Nespolo reconstructs reality by playing with colors and different levels.
